Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executes and manages capital projects from feasibility through commissioning, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Leads process design and optimization for critical systems, including reactors, condensers, distillation columns, utilities (steam, chilled water), and storage vessels
  • Develops and reviews detailed Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), technical specifications, and engineering documentation
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with operations, quality assurance, maintenance, and external vendors to achieve project milestones
  • Conducts safety assessments such as Management of Change (MOCs), Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs), implementing risk mitigation strategies to ensure compliance with FDA, OSHA, and other applicable standards
  • Utilizes project management tools (e.g., MS Project) to effectively manage project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and operational efficiency
  • Diagnoses and resolves operational and equipment issues by analyzing system performance, identifying root causes, and implementing effective corrective actions
  • Provides troubleshooting support for equipment such as reactors, condensers, and distillation columns, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance
  • Supports knowledge sharing and mentorship to foster a high-performing engineering team

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • Minimum 7 years ‘experience with at 5 years working in a pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit) and project management software
  • Baseline proficiency with SAP or other ERP systems preferred
  • PMP or Lean Six Sigma certification desired
