We are looking for a candidate who has a passion for safety in a pharmaceutical environment and enjoys a fast-paced, dynamic workplace. The ideal candidate will have a high level of skill, experience and understanding of Environmental, Health and Safety in a chemical manufacturing environment. The Associate Director, EHS is responsible for ensuring site operations are compliant with local, state and federal environmental, health & safety (EHS) regulations, and Corporate EHS policies. Collaborates with other sites, site leadership and colleagues to work toward creating a great safety culture that emphasizes the importance of safety at every level of the organization. Engages with all departments to identify areas for EHS improvement and drives continuous progress.


Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain safety programs, policies and procedures to ensure a safe and secure workplace that meets or exceeds Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements, including all recordkeeping and required submissions.
  • Develop strategies for sustainability such as waste minimization, environmental compliance, sustainability and reduction of environmental impact by site.
  • Develop and maintain a compliance calendar for all relevant EHS functions and responsibilities
  • Provide appropriate training to employees and contractors related to implemented EHS programs.
  • Collaborates with QA and to conduct regular EHS audits and develops corrective actions in coordination with the appropriate department leader.
  • Keeps site informed of changes in EHS regulations and how they may impact specific processes.
  • Manage and continuously improve the Hazardous Waste program at according to State and Federal EPA and DOT regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits and risk assessments using Process Hazards Reviews and develop Safe Plan of Action protocols to manage the handling of potent and hazardous chemicals
  • Attend and conduct annual training programs as necessary to remain compliant with Federal and State requirements.
  • Responsible for managing and documenting loss prevention, industrial hygiene, medical support, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Manage and mentor other EHS personnel



Qualifications/Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of EPA, DOT, OSHA, NFPA, and NEC regulations governing environmental health and safety.
  • Industrial Hygiene knowledge.
  • Radiation Safety Officer training
  • Professional certification (e.g., OSHA 30 hr, CIH, CSP, or PE) preferred.
  • CPR, AED, First Aid trained
  • HAZWOPER Certified


Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • BS or higher in EHS, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or in an equivalent technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience as an EHS representative in a chemical industry.
  • Experience in the management of hazardous waste
  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with behavioral based safety systems preferred.
