Job Description
Facilities Engineer
Responsible for the implementation of manufacturing support processes, instrumentation and equipment for offices, labs and manufacturing. At the direction of the Head of Facilities, provide support in facilities such as processing, engineering, design, project coordination, start-up, and validation of GMP and non-GMP utilities and facilities areas and systems. Ensure all work and documentation are in accordance with cGMP and company guidelines.
Essential Functions
- Provides support to manufacturing operations area including the following activities:
- Equipment and system troubleshooting to support deviations, corrective actions and related manufacturing impact or quality issues.
- Tracking and evaluating process trends or issues in collaboration with quality, process research and development, and manufacturing.
- Assists in procurement, installation, engineering start up and validation activities related to systems and equipment.
- Participates in the implementation of procedural improvement changes.
- Ensure safety requirements are implemented and adhered to for people and equipment, to include training (i.e., LOTO, Arc Flash).
- Implementation of policies and procedures which enable the site to comply with all legal requirements and company guidelines.
- This includes Quality, Human Relations, and Health & Safety, Environmental. Thorough knowledge and understanding of building systems operations, maintenance, and repair.
- Design, installation, and repair of plant utility, HVAC and building management systems.
- Provide Technical support for facilities including diagnosing equipment issues/downtime, performing preventative maintenance, assisting any equipment servicing and repair, and moving equipment/controls as required.
- Structure and conduct facilities job plans and work procedures, alongside Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Reliability programs, inclusive of service agreements.
- Optimization of utilities equipment availability and efficiency, in coordination with operational production goals, with data analysis to implement a short-term and long-term roadmap.
- Define and implement the facilities strategy, with a focus on equipment criticality. Generation and revision of internal SOPs for building systems and facilities related equipment.
- Manage a central register of all critical plant, site facilities, equipment and machinery on site.
- Oversight of contractors/vendors and service contracts for sustainment of utilities systems, buildings, tooling, and processing equipment for new and installed infrastructures.
- Utilization of a maintenance management process to setup and conduct repairs, preventative maintenance and calibration on infrastructure and equipment as well as maintain schedules and records as required.
- Continuous improvement mindset for processes and procedures, in alignment with DBS fundamentals and lean manufacturing.
- Champion for sustainability through energy improvement project implementation.
- Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a compliant and ethical manner and in accordance with all applicable regulations and industry codes.
- Maintain cost focus for budget, operational efficiency, and spare parts management.
Qualifications Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering or equivalent technical experience considered.
- Work Experience Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in building operations, engineering and equipment and systems maintenance with a minimum of three (3) years as a facility engineer or similar role preferred.
- Pharmaceutical process or biotechnology experience preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of GMPs is preferred.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) and facility drawings desirable.
- Must have excellent communication skills and ability to work in a high-paced team[1]oriented environment.
- Project management skills. Knowledge of the building process and construction principles and the subject areas of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles and theories and operations for all the equipment and systems used in manufacturing facilities.
