Recruiter & Professional: A Long-Term Relationship
Written By: Jessica Gerber
One of my favorite parts of being a recruiter is establishing relationships with pharmaceutical professionals. Although our goal is to find the perfect job for the candidates we work with as soon as possible, the first job they interview for may not always be a fit.
During one of my first years as a pharmaceutical recruiter, I worked with a candidate that mostly held contract positions. He wanted a permanent position where he could grow his validation career. At the time we had an opening with a client that we felt could be a great fit. While the client liked his diverse background from working various validation consulting positions, they felt for this specific role they needed someone who was more specialized in one specific area of validations.
Although this role was not a fit, during the process of submitting his information to our client I was able to gain a good understanding of this candidate’s background and what was important to him for his next role.
A year later, the same client had a different validation opening. This opening was different, in which they needed a candidate who had a diverse background with various validation skills and programs. I immediately thought of the candidate I previously submitted to this client, and because I had this relationship established with them, I was able to work with him to get his information resent over for this position.
It was a quick interview process for our client to determine that this candidate would be a great fit for the role and presented an offer. It might not have been the first time we submitted this candidate, but we established a relationship with them and were able to advocate for them once the right role was presented.
