The Benefits of Establishing a Long-Term Relationship with Your Recruiter

Written By: Jessica Gerber

When we work with candidates we are not looking for a short-term relationship. Instead, my goal is to always establish a long-term relationship, where we can be a resource for them, whether that’s helping them find their next role, or improve their current situation at their role.

Placing this candidate, a year after initially working with them, at the same company he interviewed with, taught me the importance of establishing a solid recruiter-candidate relationship. Taking the time to truly understand why this candidate is looking for a new position and what would excite them at their next role allowed me to be a stronger resource for them.

In addition to this strong relationship, another important aspect was managing the relationship between the candidate and client. Although the client initially didn’t feel like our candidate was the best fit for the role, it was important to establish a relationship of trust between the two. This then allowed for when a role did open up that was a good fit, there was already a healthy relationship established.

Building and maintaining these relationships is a part of being a recruiter that I cherish.
